Novaerus is Driven by Proof, Facts and Research

Below are a series of frequently asked questions and answers which customers have asked us about Novaerus and the range of Home and Business Air Protection Devices we produce.

Novaerus is a ‘Kill’ technology and has been developed here in Ireland by the Novaerus team of scientists and engineers.

It utilizes a NanoStrike technology which is an atmospheric plasma discharge — the same type of discharge found in lightning strikes — to  deactivate harmful airborne microorganisms.

Inside the devices there are plasma coils which generate the plasma discharge and as air is drawn over the coils, airborne viruses, bacteria and spores are killed and deactivated at the DNA level on contact.

Microorganisms are exposed directly to the plasma discharge as opposed to by-products of the discharge as the air flows over the coils. This means no dangerous by-products or chemicals are released and they are safe to use for the elderly, children or those who are vulnerable and sick.

Yes, they are medical grade devices and were developed for hospital settings to inactivate airborne viruses, bacteria and spores long before Covid-19 emerged.

They have no dangerous by-products or chemicals which means they can be used 24/7 around children, the elderly, or those who are vulnerable and sick.

One of the most prominent of the safety standards which Novaerus has achieved is the Californian Air Review Board (ARB) which is recognised as being the most stringent in the world. Considered the Gold Standard for emission safety standards, ARB has tested and certified Novaerus against their stringent low ozone test requirements as being safe for use around people.

NanoStrike technology represents a decade of innovation at Novaerus, a Dublin-based company with its HQ in the DCU
Alpha Innovation Campus. Novaerus’ mission has always been to prevent pathogen spread. The company’s devices, commonly installed in critical-care units and operating theatres, have long protected hospital patients from infectious
outbreaks of all kinds – influenza, norovirus, tuberculosis, MRSA, aspergillosis, measles.

With the emergence of Covid-19 in 2020, devices have since been sold across every sector – in 65 countries worldwide – including hospitality, retail, medical, construction and more.

Devices are manufactured here in Ireland in Co. Laois.

Novaerus is driven by proof, facts and research and the technology has been rigorously tested in over 30 independent laboratories worldwide and here in the Novaerus lab which is staffed by world class scientists.

Novaerus devices are CE marked against the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU and conform to Medical Grade Equipment in medical facilities.

Novaerus NanoStrike technology has also been deemed safe and effectual by over 30 independent Institutions such as Korean KTC, Mexico NOM, Canada CUL, California CARB and UL (U.S).

The Novaerus Defend 1050 device has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration of America as a Class II Medical device [Jan 2021]

Devices are being used in Irish hospitals such as St. James’ Hospital Dublin,  Naas General Hospital, Co. Kildare and The Leopardstown Park Hospital Co. Dublin.

As the NV200 and NV800 have no filters, there is little to no maintenance. This means no parts to be replaced, no training and no costly call outs from qualified technicians.

The NV800 has a “scrim” which should be removed and cleaned approximately once a month.

The Defend 1050 has three filters, pre, carbon and HEPA. As the filters only deal with dead matter, your own staff can change them. The  annual cost of filter maintenance is *estimated at €1,300 per device (includes VAT)

* prices subject to change

The design life/product lifespan of each device is approximately 5 years based on recommendation that devices are running 24/7

The opening of windows can be complementary to using air purification devices depending on the contamination
level of the outside air and provided there is no HVAC system in the building designed specifically to heat, cool and
ventilate rooms.

Each device comes with a 2-year warranty.
